The Greenville News - Front Page

Downtown project forges ahead.

The development will include:
- 135-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel
- New restaurant by Rick Erwin called Nantucket Seafood Grill
- Courtyard next to City Hall will have 12-foot "water wall," public bathrooms and ice rink in winter.
- 250-space parking garage
- Developer Windsor/Aughtry Co. of Greenville also developed the Hampton Inn & Suites at RiverPlace and the mix of condos, shopping and office space at the corner of Broad and River streets called Poinsett Corners.

Hotel developer hopes to show staying power.

Developers of the proposed $65 million Peacock Hotel & Spa at the corner of McBee Avenue and Spring Street have suspended construction as a consequence of the sour economy.

However, a few blocks down Main Street, Windsor/Aughtry Co. is proceeding with constructions of a six-story, $40 million development that will include a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

Paul C. 'Bo'  Aughtry III, a principal in Windsor/Aughtry, said he is hoping the current economic slump will have subside by the time his company's Main @ Broad development opens in the fall of 2009.

A rendenting of the six-story, mixed-use development that Windsor/Aughtry Co. is building on 1.6 acres at the corner of Main and Broad streets in downtown Greenville.

"I think our timing on this, fortuitously, not by any scientific planning, will be opportune," Aughtry said during a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday.

The development under construction next to City Hall, in addition to the 135-room hotel, will include Nantucket Seafood Grill, an upscale seafood restaurant.

Plans also call for five stories of office space, a 250-space parking garage and a public green space next to City Hall.
